History of Lemons
A short story
Lemons are an evergreen tree from Asian .
First grown in Assam which is a region in Northeast Indian .
They were also growing in Burma and China .
It is a hybrid between bitter orange and citron.
Lemons entered Southern Europe during ancient Roman times .
They were found in paintings from Pompeii ( 1st Century AD).
Later Lemons were taken to Persia, Iraq and Egypt.
They were planted in early Islamic gardens. Sold and Traded in the Arab world .
Lemons were growing in Genoa Italy in the 15th century . Lemons made to the Azores in 1494.
Later , Christopher Columbus brought lemon seeds to the Americans on his ships .
They were planted and used as ornamentals and also as a medicinal .
It was only in the 19th century that the plant showed up as orchards in Florida and California .
For both personal and commercial use.
Lemons are used for Scurvy ( a disease caused by the lack of Vitamin C ) .
James Lind in 1747 started using in for seamen , putting the juice in their food . As a cure.
We have been using every since .

Old French - Limon
Italian- Limone
Arabic- Laymun or Limun
Persian- Limun
Sanskrit - Nimbu means Lime
This Fruit Tree belongs to the Rutaceae family
Lemons used to be called " Persia Apples ".
